It was Sunday. This apartment will have 5 persons deviding into three room, my room is triple, except Naru is a student manager we still 2 vacancy bed. Janet - a new student who I picked her up last night with Naru. She slept all that morning and so was I. But hungry made me wake up at lunch and could not continue sleeping anymore. I saw bread but it expired 3 days ago. I ate apple, banana and cake I bought from Vietnam, almost things I had and drank water but my stomach demonstrated against all. It felt hungry. I went to the kitchen. There was rice, eggs, Kim Chi, rice cooker and electrical stove. Awesome! I thought. I would cook rice and egg. In my home this is a normal thing I am familiar with when I was a child.
Firstly, I poured water and rice on pot and turned on electricity. Suddenly, rice cooker louldly spoke Korean that I couldn't understand. Letter on display cooker ran without stopping. I closed the cooker and went into my bed to wait. 30 minutes passed, I went back and checked. Nothing happened. The water in pot was still cold, rice was still rice. I turned off electricity and started with guidance video on youtube. After that continued waiting. More a hour passed. Rice wasn't boiled. I was so hungry and could't wait anymore. I decided to boil eggs with a new and heavy pot. Electrical stove started severval seconds and turned off right after. Again I turned off and started it but stove was not on. Well, I saw a hot pot that sometimes my family used, I tried to change pot. It was lucky, stove and pot were correct. I ate 2 boiled eggs for lunch that second day.
From my window, Baguio was so peace, no traffic, no dusty, no noisy, only windy and cool air and these green pine hills spreading thousand miles. Janet got up and I met her in living room that afternoon.
- Hi, what's your name?
- I'm Janet.
- Oh, I'm Jane. Our name is similar. I'm from Vietnam. How about you?
- Taiwanese - she answered
- Wow, nice to meet you. I was going to walk around here. Did you wanna go with me?
- Where? - she asked
- Well, around here - I smiled
- Ok.
We walked in road among pine hills. These villas was surrounded by pines, quitely and purely. We saw a park and a market selling clothes, handmade twistles, key toys, bags, hats and traditional foods and drinks. I was impressed with Tofu vendors. They wore two buckets, one high, one short and said "To-fu-hô" like singing, 30 peso a cup. Janet said a little while I talked too much. I was surprised when she said she 35 yrs, look her like me. We were back when the dark was coming. Rice cooker following youtube seemed had a good result, I had rice mix Phillippinese noodle for dinner. Janet prepared Taiwanese noodle and she also cooked it by stove. As me, she chose beauty pot and tried to make it boiled. Because I was from countryside so I didn't often know how to use some modern kitchen equipments but Janet might be different. I waited her to use that stove "Hey, if you can use that stove, please tell me. I don't know how to use this morning" - "Yes, but I don't know now". And it was true, she did somethings same me in the morning, 15 minutes passed, the stove was turned off and started and turned off again. I told her "Why don't you try another pot, for example, that pot" but she didn't believe me and searched its using guidance on google. My noodle was done. I was hurry, only 2 eggs for lunch couldn't be enough for me. I mixed rice and noodle into a dish I couldn't put a name but I ate all until the last noodle after that bonus desert with two bananas and an apple. Janet still found out to cook her noodle. I wanted to confess with her this morning I met trouble with stove same her and how I changed the pot but she sent messages and asked her student manager help. The last she was success with her noodle by changing pot.
